Vacation rentals in Croatia – Our house for you(r) vacation

If you are looking for vacation rentals in Croatia especially if you are interested in the island of Hvar then please read about our house in Vela Stiniva Bay. First of all, get acquainted with our offer, find out about us and our small bay. It is certainly worth spending a few minutes exploring here.

How to come to Vela Stiniva Bay

Vacation rentals in Croatia.
Drvenik ferry port
How to come to the island Hvar

If you come by car, you will need to use the ferry and you have two options: or you will drive to Drvenik and after half an hour drive by ferry, sail to Sućuraj or board a ferry in Split and after 2 hours drive by ferry, sail in Stari Grad.

Ferry

Sućuraj is the easternmost point of the island of Hvar, a small fishing village with about 300 inhabitants. Going further from Sućuraj, take the state road which is quite narrow to Jelsa. About 30 kilometers from Sućuraj you will reach Zastražišće.

If you are traveling from Split you will come to the ferry port in Stari Grad. The oldest town in Croatia. Beside the ferry port, there is a large shopping center where you can supply food and other necessities. From Stari Grad, you will head east towards Jelsa and further towards Sućuraj. After 30 kilometers (again) you will reach Zastražišće.

To help you decide how to get to the island, please read my article in which I compare the two offered alternatives.

At 311 meters above sea level lies Zastražišće, a small village on the state road where you will head towards Vela Stiniva bay. Today, there are about 200 people living in the village, while over 600 people lived here in the thirties of the last century.

As a permanent settlement, Zastražišće is mentioned already in the 15th century when the region was ruled by the Venetian Republic. Today in the village there is a primary school with 5 students sitting in one classroom regardless of their age.

Vineyards, olive trees, and lavender fields surround the village. The place is known for its high-quality olive oil and good quality wine.

And here you are

In the village, you will turn to the right from the state road to the local asphalt road. Driving downhill about 3 kilometers you will come to the bay. The first house on the left side is your destination.

Our house is not very large, but it is warm and cozy. It consists of two floors: ground floor and first floor, connected by concrete stairs. The floor area is about 70 square meters, but on the first floor, there is a large terrace on one side and a big balcony on the other. The first floor is provided for our dear guests, so they have some 100 square meters available for accommodation.

In front of the house is planted vineyards which creates pleasant shade, and all around the house is greenery or flowers. On the east side of the house is the garden that my wife and her mother govern. And there are grapevines, mandarins, lemons and peaches, tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, salads and more.

And another beautiful scene in the yard, a stone table with stone chairs. Not so long ago people really liked to sit at that table, but unfortunately, those times had gone by.

In front of the house

First floor

When you get to the floor and enter the house, you will find yourself in a corridor. From there you can enter one of the three rooms, one of the two bathrooms or the kitchen. Rooms are spacious and each has a large double bed. In two rooms there are a double bed and a comfortable single bed.

Apartments in Croatia are mostly for 2 – 4 people for which there is the highest demand. The ideal number of guests in our house is 6, but if needed, the number of guests can be up to 8. Unfortunately, this will also increase the price. Of course, it can accommodate even fewer guests if it suits them.

In the rooms, besides a nice big bed, there are cupboards for storing and hanging clothes, and a small desk with a chair. In the room, you will also find small luggage storage.

The kitchen is fully equipped so you can store the food and prepare a dish. You can use a microwave, oven, glass ceramic plate and all necessary utensils: cutlery, pans, plates and the like.

On the floor are two bathrooms with toilets. They are equipped with shower cabins and everything is new, purchased in 2018. In one of the bathroom, there is also a washing machine.

There is a powerful air conditioning in the corridor to cool the entire space. Free WI-FI is also available so you can stay connected with the world.

On the west side of the house, there is a parking lot for more cars and parking is free.

  1. Holiday homes in our own country are spectacular but to travel to a foreign land is an exciting prospect

Of course one would have to have a traveller’s phrase book to converse with the local people in Croatia.

A place near the sea is a wonderful luxury for us who live 400 km from the coast

One would need to hire a car, and would need an international drivers licence.

The accommodation sounds very nice and modern, and from the pictures the views seem great.

    1. Ty Robert for your comment. One thing I am sure you don’t need to worry about language. Here a lot of people speak English.

The best way for coming to Croatia is by plain and then rent a car. I don’t know about international drivers license but know that I can go to any country in the EU with my license which I using in Croatia.

  2. Wow this house is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this. I really love the images am seeing. This part of Croatia is beautiful and if I want to go for vacation for the next time. I will think of visiting Vela Stiniva bay. I am sure there will be areas for sightseeing that is in this town as well. This place would be beautiful. Thanks

  3. Croatia has been on my bucket list for many years. I came once when the name was Yugoslavia, but in the last five years, I have wanted to find a good time to come. One family member was on this area you mention and give it 10 of 10. He is a cook and food lover and showed me a lot of photos from the Vineyards, olive trees and when he was with the farmers at their home when they were showing their olive oil. Which he bought and let me test, I can highly recommend it.But I like to ask you about one thing. I am more thinking about coming in the winter time because the winters in my countries can be very dark because of little daylight at that time. I have done that last years, both to shorten the winter and too because the summer is short but great and I really want to stay at that time.Because of that, I would like to ask about the climate at that time (September to November or February to April), it is mild weather at that time? And are a problem to get a room at that time?

    1. Thank you, Johann, for your comment. I’ll tell you about out of season because it is for me the best part of the year. Last year my wife and I came to Vela Stiniva at the beginning of May and we stayed until the middle of October.
The last time we were swimming in the sea was on September 20th. So September could be very nice but not every year. Winter is cold because of wind so it’s not comfortable.

In April it is possible that the day is very nice but the nights are very cold. In May, stable time is already beginning, and June is already the right summer without people.

We offer accommodation from the beginning of May to the middle of October and I would be delighted to host a colleague from WA.

  5. Hi Darko or may I say Bok Darko!

Great job with your site, I like the idea a lot.

Vela Stiniva looks like a fantastic place for holidays. I’ve been to Drvenik once as a kid. Also, I spent a whole summer down at Makarska Riviera with my friends going from Makarska down to Drvenik. I had some of the best times in my life down at our coast. I have never been on any of our beautiful islands, ever! I can see how much I am missing just by looking at these photos. Maybe I’ll visit your island one time to stop for a glass of vine if you have any in your basement.

Guys, visit our beautiful country, and I guarantee you’ll have the best holidays ever! Our people are the best hosts you’ll ever meet! 🙂

    Sve najbolje,
    All the best,
    Ivan

    1. Hi (bok) Ivane,

I am so glad to say hello to somebody from my country. You know all about our coast and really it is a pity that you did not visit the islands, especially Hvar. If you ever come to Vela Stinova we will certainly find some wine to drink.
Thank you very much for your support in promoting our beautiful country.

  6. Simply judging from the imagery and the way you describe Croatia it’s going to be another country to add to add to my bucket list in time. The apartment you described is exquisite and would definitely beat a hotel any time. I never really considered Croatia until reading your post but it seems like a dream land to me, much like I’ve always considered Scandinavia.
