About Island Hvar – East side island’s bays

When we talk about island Hvar, we must mention countless bays and coves, unforgettable beauty and clean sea. After you disembark from the ferry in Sucuraj, the easternmost point of the island, and go west you will come across numerous bays. Some are populated, some are not, in some you can find accommodation. We will go from east to west and about those best known bays will be the words in this article.

Perna bay

2.5 km away from Sucuraj on the south side of the island is the Perna Bay. The macadam road leads to the bay so access is possible by foot, by car, by bicycle and by boat. The coast is rocky and good wooded, the sea bottom is shallow and sandy. Not inhabited.

Bay Mlaska

Driving further west on State Road D166 after 3.1 km you will reach the turning for the Mlaska bay. Proceed to the beautiful sandy cove on the north side of the island, situated at the foot of the dense pine forest. In the cove there is an auto camp, and parts of the bay are also a naturist beach.

Mrtinovik Bay

South side of the island, about 10 km from Sucuraj. Pebble and rocky coast, perfect for small children. Possible access by boat and on foot.

Going further west along the state road 116 after 19 km we will reach the small village Bogomolje. The village has more than 800 inhabitants 100 years ago, today there are about a hundred people. From the place go the road towards many bays from which I’ll mention some.

Smokvina Bay

Only 3 km from village Bogomolje on the southern coastline of the island of Hvar, lies the Smokvina cove with an exceptionally beautiful pebble beach. From the village of Bogomolje you can reach the cove by boat or by car

Bristova Bay

On the north side of the island of Hvar, the Bristova cove is located near the village Bogomolje. Visit the bay if you are looking for a holiday far away from the city crowds, and enjoy the silence and scents of the rich flora of the island of Hvar. You can reach the Bristova bay by boat and car.

Bay Pelinovik

On the south coast of the island of Hvar, near the village Bogomolje, there is a Pelinovik cove with a beautiful pebble shine. Available by boat and by car.

Going further west along the state road 116 after 6 km we will reach the small village Gdinj. Typical for this island the village has more than 800 inhabitants 100 years ago, today there are about a hundred people. Gdinj has no major tourist facilities, but in Gdinj’s coves, on the north and south side of the island, apartment tourism has been developed. To these coves leads a 10-mile long road that descends from the hamlet of Nova Crkva.

In this post, I wrote about the bays on the eastern side of the island. Many of them are inhabited and there you can find accommodation for your vacation.

In the foreseeable future, I will write about the coves situated around the middle of the island where the Vela Stiniva bay is located.
