Choosing the best places to visit in Croatia is a serious job, however, personal preferences play the main role. Someone else would probably suggested some other places, because in Croatia there are such places hundreds. Zagreb and the island of Hvar I described in other posts and for me certainly belong to top destinations.
Dubrovnik
According to many, one of the most beautiful and most popular Mediterranean cities, Dubrovnik, is located in the very south of Croatia.
Dubrovnik is famous for its historical sights and cultural events, but has received great attention from the Game of Thrones series.
As a result of that, this year Dubrovnik has visited 140,000 Americans, but on the other hand the largest number of guests are the British.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
It is the largest, oldest and most visited Croatian national park. 16 lakes of various sizes, filled with crystal blue water receive water from numerous rivers and streams. Lakes are connected by cascades and waterfalls. Travertine barriers, which are made in the period of ten thousand years, are one of the fundamental characteristics of the Park.
Furthermore, Plitvice Lakes are rich in forests, inhabited by brown bear, lynx and wolf.
Pula
The city is known for the Arena, the Roman amphitheater from the first century in which were held gladiator fights. The building is impressive, elliptical shape with a length of major axis of 130 meters and the short axis of 100 meters.
In the middle of Arena is battlefield, where gladiator fights were held and what was watched by 20000 people.
Pula is the largest town in Istria, which is spread over seven hills
National park Brijuni
Looking for best places to visit in Croatia you can’t bypass this national park. At the northwest exit of the Pula harbor there is the Brijuni Islands, one of the true Istrian gems. It consists of 2 large islands and 12 small ones. The land is only three miles away.
On the largest island, Veli Brijun, there is a safari park where quietly live wild animals such as deer, pheasant, mouflon or zebra, and there is also a landscaped park with a multitude of eucalyptus, Lebanese cedars, bamboo and palm trees.
Also, here is the world-famous golf course from 1922, the sports grounds for small football, tennis and volleyball. You can rent electric bikes and bicycles with which you can explore the most hidden locations.
Rovinj
Church bell tower of St. Euphemia, which is dominated by the most famous view of the city, is the main attraction of Rovinj
Rovinj, one of the strongest tourist centers in Croatia, is located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula.
Fun, gastronomy, beaches, excursions, recreation, fishing, diving … all at the top level, should not be missed.
Bol
On the south side of the island of Brač, one of the largest Croatian islands, the settlement Bol is located.
The place is well-known for its Zlatni rat beach, the most famous beach on the Adriatic and one of the most beautiful in Europe. The area is a favorite place for surfers and kite surfers
Furthermore Bol is famous for its gastronomic offer, nightlife and a huge number of sports facilities.
Zrce beach
Finally, on the island of Pag is the most famous party destination, Zrce beach.
The beach is pebble and can accommodate thousands of swimmers, and offers the opportunity to use various sports-recreational and entertainment facilities such as bungee jumping, jet-ski, parasailing, cage ball or wake-boarding.
There are several clubs on the beach which work all night long. But above all, Zrce is popular because of great music festivals.
There is no end to that
I could further list the places and destinations you can visit if you come to Croatia. Probably some of you who visit my web site will come to Croatia, some may even come to our house in Hvar, but many will meet with my country just here and see how much interest and beauty is in such a small space.
Much more data about each of the destinations listed, you can find browsing the internet. Therefore, this list does not claim to be final at all, and in any case represents my personal choice.
