Stari Grad – Port for big ferries

Stari Grad is a small town on the southwestern side of the island Hvar. The ferry port is not far from the city, and you will disembark here if you have boarded in Split. The journey from Split to Stari Grad should take about 2 hours.

So you’re driving by car and you’ve decided for Split from where you will travel to the island of Hvar. You have another option that you can look at here.

Finally, after two hours you arrive in the Stari Grad. Straight across ferry port is a supermarket where you can stock up with food and drink for several days. When you disembark in Stari Grad take the state road towards the Jelsa or Sucuraj and for about 30 km you will reach Zastrazisce. The road is new and wide up to 5 kilometers before Zastražišće.

Practically the first turn to the left behind the table named Zastražišće is the way to your apartment in Vela Stiniva bay. The apartment is in the first house on the left, and it’ll take you ten minutes from the main road because the road is quite inconvenient. Drive cautiously because you are on vacation and do not hurry anywhere.

Split vs Drvenik

Suppose you came to Split by plane, rent a car and want to arrive at your apartment in Vela Stiniva bay on the island of Hvar. You have two options:
1. to board a ferry in Split, or
2. to board a ferry in Drvenik.

Which is a better option I will try to explore below. The assumption is that in a car four people are older than 12 and that the car consumes an average of 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Option 1 – Split

Airport – Ferry port (car)……24.20****0.5……2.40
Split -Stari Grad (ferry)……..0.00****2.0….67.29
Stari Grad – Vela Stiniva (car)……29.30****0.6……2.95

Option 2 – Drvenik

Airport – Drvenik (car)…126.30****1.7…..12.69
Drvenik – Sucuraj (ferry)…….0.00****0.6…..23.23
Sucuraj – Vela Stiniva (car)…..36.45****0.8…….3.66

a) In both cases, travel will take just over 3 hours.

b) In the Split version, you will have to drive 53.50 km which will take you 1.1 hour. In the Drvenik variant, you will spend 2.5 hours in driving and you will spend 162.75 km.

c) In the Split version costs will be 72.64 €, and in the Drvenik variant costs will be 39.58 €.

  • Time is your priority: then you do not care which version you choose.
  • If it is most important how much you will have to drive in the car then the better variant is Split.
  • Costs are the most important: then Drvenik’s is a better option.

We are hardly waiting to welcome you. Please leave your comment.

In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the net will probably be much more useful than ever before.
